Qui sont les travailleurs avec plusieurs contrats de travail et pourquoi ?

Stéphane Auray, David Fuller, Guillaume Vandenbroucke

Holding multiple jobs is often assumed to mean that a single job doesn’t provide enough to make ends meet. In this essay we use data from the Current Population Survey (CPS) to look more closely at how many people hold multiple jobs, who they are, and what types of jobs they hold.

Since 1994, at least 50 percent of multiple job holders have had a full-time job as their main source of employment plus a part-time job. At most, 30 percent of multiple jobholders have had two part-time jobs. Finally, about 5 percent of multiple jobholders have had two full time jobs.

More research may provide insight into these and other possible motivations to hold multiple jobs. This project aims at understanding the possible motivations to hold multiple jobs and at developing a macroeconomic model to analyze the impact of multiple jobs on the economy. We aim at developing a novel to represent the key mechanisms behind the reasons of multiple jobs holding, along with a theory on the decline of multiple job holders over time.
